A half million people marched peacefully down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Washington Monument in the biggest anti-war protest. My girlfriend Kay and housemate Steve (one eye over my shoulder) hitch-hiked down from Massachusetts. We sang "Give Peace a Chance" and celebrated life and love over war and hate. Steve would later serve time in Allenwood as a "illegitimate" conscientious objector. | ||
